James E. “Skinny” Sheahan has one of the top-paying jobs at the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, making $165,470 a year as chief of external relations for the agency that runs McCormick Place and Navy Pier.

Sheahan — who has worked for McPier for a dozen years — also draws three government pensions, including one from his 13 years as a public school teacher on the South Side.

Between his McPier salary and his government pensions, Sheahan makes $222,928 a year.

He is a politically well-connected figure. His brother Michael Sheahan is the former Cook County sheriff.

Before coming to McPier, James Sheahan worked as Mayor Daley’s special-events chief. He also worked for Daley when Daley was Cook County state’s attorney.

“I know I’m a political name,” says Sheahan, who shifted to his current job last summer after serving as assistant general manager of McCormick Place.

But he adds, “This is a very complicated business. I think I’m versed in it. I’ve been offered jobs in a half dozen other states. I work very hard.”

McPier describes Sheahan’s new job as a “lateral move.” His salary didn’t change.

His new duties range from lobbying to community relations to diversity and sexual-harassment training.

“We’re a not-for-profit municipal corporation,” Sheahan says. “The word ‘municipal’ is in that. We’re a combination of city and state. . . . It’s really important that when you’re working with shows, you have to have people who understand how the city works when it comes to permits and other things that have to get done.”

It’s time to change the status quo…not to another MACHINE concept, but to authentic, meaningful change, where there are far less back pockets to fill and far more concerns about what really affects the people.

About 10,000 of us have been murdered.

What else should we, or could we, judge Daley’s 20 yrs in OUR Chicago office on? Standard of living? Less criminal gangs/more jobs? How’s that going?
Better parking? How’s that been treating you?

Less blighted sights on our South side? How’s that working out for ya?

Less corruption in OUR government with OUR public trust? How’s that going?
Does Daley have any class? I mean that in the old original sense of the word “class”. The answer is painfully obvious.
