I enjoyed the brutal truth in “Politicians can’t sugarcoat Illinois’ dire straits” by Carol Marin. However, the truth is that Illinois (especially Cook County and Chicago) politicians have hidden the truth about our taxpayer dollars for years, and the obfuscation is getting worse.
We are all remiss if we don’t fault 2 other entities: 1) liberal media and 2) citizens. The media in large part loves big liberal government and liberal social policies, so they cover, more or less, for the democrat party which runs our entire state. I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit that my Republican Party is covertly working continuously with democrats such as Speaker Mike Madigan and Mayor Rich Daley. And I am a publicly elected Republican Party official. The citizens are at fault in a huge way for re-electing (hiring) the same crooked politicians over and over. Shame on all the ignorant citizens who do not vote!
The toughest medicine is this: Scores of government workers must be let go. They must be let go and properly encouraged into private sector work. This also includes elected officials. For example, Chicago doesn’t need 50 alderman at over $100,000 per year for their part-time work.
I am running for Cook County Commissioner against Daley’s brother, John Daley. I never met anyone including John, who runs for office on a policy of letting government workers go. It is called political suicide. I am willing to kill politics! You see, I am not going to sugarcoat my words on the campaign trail. I am willing to keep this conversation of “brutal truth” and “tough medicine” going. Are all those tough government workers and union bigshots tough enough to talk public policy and economics? Are media liberals yet honest enough to talk about bloated government? The current system is described in one word: unsustainable.
